Dawson was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs W. Munroe of Cambridge. He was educated at Cambridge District High School, where he achieved his School Certificate pass in 1940.

He was musically gifted and as a teenager he participated in local music competitions, winning the Under 15 Recitation (Untrained Cass) in the 15th Annual Cambridge Competitions Society session in October 1937. The following year he came second in the Under 16 Recitation of the same competitions in October 1938.

Dawson became engaged to Betty Ruth Bryan of Clevedon in December 1945. However it's not clear what happened here, as he later married Valmae Kathleen Kerby in 1951. It seems that Dawson worked for the Ministry of Education between 1941 and 1972, apart from his service in the RNZAF.

Service Details: Dawson worked in the RNZAF Meteorological branch, but at this stage little else is known about his RNZAF service.

Date of Death: 20th of July 1999. aged 76

Connection with Cambridge: Dawson's engagement notice in the New Zealand Herald dated the 24th of December 1945 states his parents lived in Cambridge
