Date of Birth: 23rd of January 1917, at Flaxton, Rangiora, Canterbury
Personal Details: Douglas grew up on Flaxton Farm, a station run by the Stevenson family for generations, and still so today, that is famous for its Merino sheep. He was married to June V. Stevenson (nee Humphrey, who died on the 5th of December 1999, aged 76).
Service Details: All that is known is Douglas embarked aboard the ship Lurline which sailed on the 27th of May 1943 from Wellington, and arrived in San Francisco on the 31st of May 1943. At this time no further details are known but this indicates there is a strong possibility he was a member of an aircrew trade on his way to Britain or Canada.
Date of Death : 24th of September 1998, aged 81 years.
Buried: Hautapu Cemetery, Cambridge
RSA Cemetery Plot: 220B
Connection with Cambridge: Early in WWII Douglas gave his residence as Hanmer Springs, so at this time it is thought he must have moved to Cambridge during the post war period.
