Service Details: Mentioned In Despatches (NY1946) The citation read:

“ For meritorious service. ” John served with No 1 Squadron RAF on Supermarine Spitfires. On the 17th of August 1944 Flying Officer McKenzie crash-landed near Baudeville, France after combat with Focke Wulf 190's, whilst escorting B25 Mitchell bombers to the Foret de Bretonne. With assistance from members of the FFI he evaded capture and met up with British forces sixteen days later.
