Service Details: Meihana McDonald joined the RNZAF in November 1942, as an Aircrafthand (Aerodrome Defence Unit) worker, manning the defences of RNZAF Station Omaka, at Blenheim.
He embarked for Canada aboard the troopship President Polk on the 16th of August 1943, and was attached to the Royal Canadian Air Force on August 31st for training as a Wireless Operator-Air Gunner. Following this he seems to have been posted to Britain.
Maihana was one of the 1476 RNZAF personnel who returned to New Zealand aboard the troopship Andes, docking at the Port of Lyttleton, Christchurch, on Wednesday the 24th of October 1945.
Connection with Cambridge: Flying Officer McDonald was listed as coming from Cambridge in the report about the return of airmen aboard the Andes in the Auckland Star dated the 22nd of October 1945.
