Date of Birth: Born on the 8th of July 1918 at Mount Eden, Auckland.
Personal Details: Son of Mr Arthur Denton Sayers (known as Denton) and Mrs Louie Victoria Sayers of Cambridge, before the war Ross had moved to Hamilton where he worked as a member of the literary staff of the Waikato Times newspaper.

Service Details: Ross Sayers left New Zealand in 1941, and on the 27th of January 1943 he was promoted from Flight Sergeant to Pilot Officer. He was Mentioned in Despatches twice, both stating For distinguished service. I won't write any more of his service here, because below you'll find it all in his own words.

Details of Death: Ross passed away on the 17th of March 2004

Connection with Cambridge: Ross had lived in Cambridge from a very young age. He was educated in Cambridge and Hamilton

THE PEN AND THE SWORD

I have written little above because by very special consent of Ross's widow, Mrs Annette Sayers, and her family, I am proud to present to you the first half of Ross's own memoirs, "The Pen And The Sword".

He wrote this book for his family in 1998, and revised it in 2000. We are very privileged to see these chapters that cover his Cambridge days and his RNZAF career in his own words with great detail, and I want to thank both Annette Sayers and her son John Sayers for arranging this to happen.
