Service Details: Victor joined the RNZAF at Harewood in Christchurch on the same course as Jim Ross, Norm Todd, Arthur Morriss and Manley Walsh. Like them, he trained at the Technical Training School, RNZAF Station Rongotai, Wellington, as a Flight Mechanic.
On completion of his training he was attached to No. 3 (General Reconnaissance) Squadron at Harewood in April 1941, and then later he served with No. 1 (General Reconnaissance) Squadron at Whenuapai through 1941.
On the18th of December 1941 he was posted overseas, probably to Suva, Fiji.

Connection with Cambridge: Victor Pitman is noted in the Cambridge Independent newspaper's history column in November 1965 as being one of three Cambridge airmen who joined the RNZAF at harewood 25 years before, in 1940
