The Yak Formation Team led by Sir Kenneth Hayr, with Garth Hogan and Bill Rolfe gave a spectacular performance in what unbeknown to all was to be Sir Kenneth’s last display in his homeland.
An interesting highlight was the flying of the first civil/military formation in New Zealand, with Stan Smith in his Auster flanked by two RNZAF helicopters, a Bell 47G Sioux on one wing and a Bell UH-1H Iroquois on the other.

At the conclusion of the airshow Sir Tim Wallis gave an emotional farewell speech in which he said he was stepping down from the organising committee, and he had sold the Spitfire to Australia.
